J.A and temporary employment

    I note there are a number of employment opportunities available on a fixed term contract basis - some last for a couple of months, others for a couple of years.

    Does anybody know if somebody takes up a position that is expected to last say, 2 months, whether they will have to apply for J.A, winter fuel and rent supplement etc. as a new applicant? Or can you sign on again and continue with your claim?

    Thanks.

    As regards Job Seekers Payments;
    Short-term employment or training

    The Department of Social Protection operates a fast-tracking system for people who sign off a jobseeker's payment to take up work for a short period (up to 4 weeks) or to go on a short training course (up to 8 weeks). This ensures that your payment is re-instated without delay. It is important that you inform your local social welfare office in advance that you are taking up work or training.

    Thanks. I wonder what the situation is for more than 4 weeks work.

    They will have to close the claim as keeping it open skews the figures for the live register, I believe. As far as I know, and depending on office, you can have your claim "fast-tracked" on your return, but best double check in your office.
