Switch Doctors?

    Good evening boards' members,

I have a quick question and am unsure where it belongs.
I attend a family GP regularly for arthritis. I have been with her for years and years. She knows me and does up my prescriptions on time etc.

But....I dont like her. Like on a personal level, her manners are appalling, she more or less called me fat two months post partum.
I know it sounds ridiculous, why do I attend her if I dont like her?
Its a familiarity thing, she knows all about my condition and is well read on it etc.,plus its been so long, the thoughts of getting a new doctor for my condition..I dont like going to doctors in general.

However, I am at a stage in my life now where I want to feel comfortable and relaxed with my doctor. I want a G.P. who is easy to talk to and is understanding. I want to be able to walk in and talk about whatever niggles or problems that crop up.The thing is, I dont want my current doctor to know I am attending someone else, I really am pretty certain that she would be offended, she is that type of person, and quite old-fashioned in her ways

So, I have a medical card..Is it possible to register with a new G.P without her contacting my current G.P? I would be totally mortified. I can pay the fee as i would only go now and then when I really need to, but do they have to get records or something?

Much appreciation for any thoughts or opinions,
    Brady.

You could always ask for a copy of your medical records from your current GP - they don't have to know what they are for - and then attend a new GP. I don't know the situation with the medical card and changing GP but I'm sure some internet hunting will inform you.

IMO - if you are not happy with something/someone, there is no point giving them your custom.

If your doctor calls you fat she's probably doing you a favour. If she didn't like you she'd probably offered you some cookies instead. She might be worth hangin on to bit don't expect much sympathy if one condition starts making the other one worse.

Absolutely, that way if the doc is pushing up the daisys, then the op need not worry about offending her by changing doctors. Simples

    Mmm hmmm, however,

Having a few extra pounds two months after giving birth to a baby doesn't qualify as a 'condition' though. I was not under any pressure to get back on the catwalk.

I'm sorry. I had even got past the first line of your post when I sent my reply. I have now since read it.

And this probably isn't the right place…you might be better over in personal issues.

I think you're totally right for you to want to have a doctor who you have a good relationship with…so I couldn't blame you for wanting to change. As far as I know…the new doctor will have to request your file from the old doctor, as they will need all your medical records.

Hope it works out for you.

Yeah i have posted it in health, thanks.

I really do need a doctor with whom I can be relaxed and open, but I'd feel awful if doc thought I was moving to a new one...Oh the Irish catholicness of it.

Find another doctor that is close by and ask if they can take you on. If they agree contact the medical card office in Dublin and ask for a change of doctor form. Fill it out and bring it to the new doctor to sign. Then send it off to Dublin. However that will be your new doctor and you can no longer attend your current one as far as i know.

    Don't complicate things.

Fake your death and get a new identity.

What if I got a copy of my records from doc and just gave them to new doc..She'd be none the wiser surely?

No chance there is no other way unless you want to go private.

Your doctor "more or less" called you fat..? Would it be unreasonable to guess that it might be moreso "less"?

Never had a problem with Doctors me as I use Dr Google and self-medicate. There's no ailment going that a bottle of Jack Daniels and a tinture or two of crystal meth won't cure......

....except my raging alcoholism and crystal meth addiction.
