Offically they tell you to bring it with you but some centres ask for it while others don't. I suppose it's down to if you want to chance it without or try and rebook.

If they ask for it and i havent got it will they even test the car?
Probably best not to risk it and have to pay twice!
    Cheers for the reply :)

Deans grange insist on it , but they'll test but not issue cert til you come back with the reg cert.

i asked in northpoint when i was there back in november/december. if you dont have the logbook or id they will let you do the test but wont give you a cert until you come back and produce id. she told me she could not care less if i had the logbook or not ever and she had no interest in seeing it.

i have done 3 different nct now in 2 different cars and never even been asked for the logbook but have been asked for id each time.

Do the NCT not check VIN numbers?

yes we check vin numbers from the car against the computer system. if there is a discrepency between the car and the computer we can refer to the log book to see which is right. generally its a typo by someone entering the vin number into the system and might be only one digit wrong. its rare enough all the same. but if there is no problem with chassis numbers nct shouldnt be refusing you a cert because you forgot log book as one poster said above.

From my experience, two years back was asked for logbook when doing NCT, didn't have it but they tested and issued cert anyway, last weekend went for NCT with my logbook in an envelope to hand, wasn't asked for it, only asked for my Drivers Licence.

Wasn't asked for one in Deansgrange and test went fine.

if u are the registered owner u can book it over the phone without knowing the date of registration.

Does it need to be taxed to go through the nct?

And if you know the date of first registration you can book it online even if you're not the owner
