I have a 09 one and the oil light started flickering on earlier, I dipped it for oil but its fine and only serviced recently. Is is a dodgey sensor somewhere?

Could be low oil pressure,do these engines suffer the same oil pump failure problems as some other 2.0 TDIs in the VAG family.

I would er on the side of caution and not drive it until i found out more.

Have a look in your manual, it usually says if the light is for low oil pressure or low oil level, either way though, as said above, best not to drive it until you know what's wrong.

Red is oil pressure and yellow is oil level. I would be thinking the same as tossy1, that the shaft driving the oil pump is worn. You might be lucky and get away with repairing it but stay driving it and risk doing serious damage to the engine and turbo.

It's a known problem with the oil pumps on them mate. A user by the name george Dalton had a write up about them on here. Have a look for it

I have done a bit of Googling today and according to various forums it seems only the older 2.0 engines were affected. My one is the newer one so I guess it should be OK. I cannot find that Dalton write up though.

If the oil light came on as a low oil level or low oil pressure warning I would not just leave it. Get it checked just in case.

is yours a cr engine so? has it been serviced lately?

low oil preasure is a serious problem. i would be getting to the bottom of it before it destroyes your engine and turbo.

Thanks, only serviced 5K ago with proper oil and always is. Its that new engine anyway but that George fella seems to think these engines suffer the same problem but I rang my local garage and they said my engine dont suffer this fault so I am confused now.

The car is parked since just in case.

To be honest i'd err on the side of George on this one.Leave it sitting till you get an expert opinion.Inconvenient but not as much as a new engine.

Your car does have the balance shaft but being 2009 may have the longer drive bar so it may not be the cause of the problem here. However given the consequences of an oil pump drive failure it is definitely a good idea to stop driving the car until the issue is fully checked out. At a minimum I would advise carrying out an oil pressure test and ideally it would be a good idea to remove the sump and check the drive bar and replace it as a preventative measure.

Hi, just out of the Skoda garage and they replaced some sensor. They said that shaft thing only gave trouble on older 2.0 engines.

Good stuff, at least now you know for sure. Hopefully didn't cost too much.
