Just wondering what would be the normal mpg for 3.0 diesel? Do some models come in 2.5 and if so would mpg be any better? I travel 33 miles to work and back a day. Looking at 10 reg models.

    Are they expensive to run?

I want to know also would there be enough room in the back of it to keep two bikes without taking bikes apart?

I have a 00 passat 1.9tdi which i reckon was giving me 50+ miles to the gallon but isnt big enough to allow me to carry my bikes and equipment around.

    Any other suggestions appreciated.

    About 32 mpg.

I'd say any 4*4 that size would be expensive to run, tyres, parts, fuel, tax, insurance, etc.

Once you start trying to coax a lump of metal that size to move from a standstill your costs are going to go up quite a bit, no matter what engine is in there. Conversely, sometimes the smaller engines can be less efficient as they have to "work harder" to keep things going.

Unless you spend all day at 100km/h on 'dem50 I can't see a 2 tonne SUV with permanent 4x4 getting 32mpg. I'd say you'd be looking more at mid-20's mpg wise.
