Just watching that programme about ferry pilots on discovery, What are the rules re pilots flying different aircraft. They are not carrying passengers but they are flying commercially.
These guys just turn up, never having sat in some of the aircraft types and after a quick test flight, head off to deliver the plane.
Whats the rules on flying different aircraft in this situation?

They are operating under the FAA rules which some would say are a bit easier to work with compared to here in Europe.

Many of the aircraft which are operated over here as multicrew (2 pilots) can be operated under the US system as single pilot so the second pilot in the show are only assisting the pilot in command.

Most of the smaller aircraft are covered under the "Class" rating covering any single engine piston (SEP) or Multi engine piston (MEP) under a certain weight.

Also of course they will be hired on the basis of their experience. It's quite clear in the show that the pilot in command on all these flights are very experienced indeed. Well able to keep the boss in his place too.

Just checked the FAA's database. This is the entry for Randy McGehee who appears in the series. As you can see he has quite a lot of experience:

    Date of Issue: 10/13/2011
    Certificate: AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT Print
    Ratings:
    AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT
    AIRPLANE MULTIENGINE LAND
    COMMERCIAL PRIVILEGES
    AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE LAND
    PRIVATE PRIVILEGES
    AIRPLANE SINGLE ENGINE SEA

    Type Ratings:
    A/B-757A/B-767A/BE-300A/CE-525SA/DC-9A/EMB-145A/EMB-500
    Limits:
    ENGLISH PROFICIENT.
    B-757 B-767 DC-9 CIRC. APCH. - VMC ONLY.
    DC-9 SIC PRIVILEGES ONLY.

That doesn't include his other certificates: Flight Instructor, ground Instructor or his Flight engineer. As you can see he's been around the block a bit.

Couldn't find info on the others but that's not surprising as the name they use may not be their birth name which of course the FAA will need.

    Definitely doesn't lack experience.
