I just started the couch to 5k app and am on week 3 of it.

I'm finding that the bottom of my foot directly below my toes is getting quite sore. And also the right top of my foot has started to get sore.

I'm running on rough road surfaces that are concrete and am quite heavy footed so thought my footwear might be the problem.

I went into Lifestyle today to get fitted and stood on the heat pad there and was told that I don't need arch support but need cushioning.

The girl there suggested I try Nike Dual Fusions - which are getting good reviews online.

A friend told me though that I should get tested for my gait by being videoed jogging.

Is that really necessary? The max distance I plan to run is about 10k as I have a bike and my main plan is duathalons.

I'd go to the likes of Runways or Amphibian King ect. that specialise in running shoes rather than go to the likes of Lifestyle Elvery's or Champion.

The reason being is that they do gait analysis but have a wider range of shoes that runners wear. Although Nike and Adidas do have some half decent shoes, Lifestyle Elvery's or Champion don't stock Brooks, Solomon and all the Asics lines. RUnways and Amphibian King I know do have staff that know their running and won't just try to sell you just what they have in stock

when I started I found that the top of my right foot got sore quite a bit as well, a strong continuous ache. turned out I was just lacing up my runners too tight, a bit over-enthusiastic. Once I loosened them slightly the ache disappeared

Thanks for the response. Would you know of anywhere would provide the service round Blanchardstown though?

I'd be coming from Cavan so it's about as far as I wanted to travel.

Runways is in Parnell Street and amphibian King is in Ballymount so a bit far.

There's also Up & Running in Newry and Belfast.
I don't know anything about the Newry store but a friend of mine used the Belfast one last year and found them very helpful.

Without totally disrespecting the major sports shops but they do buy more products that are fashion items rather than shoes that are fit for running in.

I would say that since you've already travelled from Cavan to Blanch, you owe it to yourself to spin the extra few miles to Ballymount and get the job done right. Honestly, it's about 10 more minutes in the car, over the M50.
