    Can anyone tell me if a 2002 Nissan primera 1.6 petrol (old shape, think they are called p11) has a timing belt or chain?

    Or if i look under the bonnet will i be able to see myself, thanks....

    both p11 and p12 have timing chains

    Look in the oil cap and you should be able to see the chain.

    EDIT: Just another question, would the timing chain need to be replaced after a certain amount of miles?

    No.
    I got mine with 62k and now it has 136k on it, the chain is the same one.
    If it breaks I will just bin the car due to repair cost vs car value.

    No you don't have to change it, unless it stretches and starts rattling.
