My vw passat 2006 was showing mass air flow sensor problem. I replaced the sensor but fault is still showing. Has anyone any idea what would cause this.

Showing fault via Diagnostics you mean?

Im no diagnostics expert but I believe the air flow meters by their nature just read poorly when failing and as such dont automatically throw a fault - you would need to dig a bit deeper into it to diagnose an air flow meter fault.
If you are getting a straight up fault for your airflow meter and seeing as you have replaced it and the fault returned, it is possible you have a wiring issue going to the meter.
As I said, Im not upto much on diagnostics so Im very open to correction.
Did you clear the fault after the meter was replaced? Is it driving good or bad. Any change since new meter went in?

I cleared the fault after changing the sensor. It seems a bi jumpy when idol. There was no change when i changed the sensor.

What was the exact fault code and description?

Just because a fault description mentions the MAF sensor doesn't mean the sensor is faulty. You also, depending on the MAF type fitted, may need to adapt the new sensor to the ECU.
