Query re road bars

    Hi all,

I'm looking to procure a set of roadbars which have a flattened top section to give that bit of extra space for the palms of your hands. So far all I can find are pricey carbon fibre options that cost a decent fraction of my Lapierre Audacio 400! Is there such thing as comfort bars made from alloy/steel/other or is carbon fibre the only option out there?

    Thanks in advance,
    Hatcho

I'll be selling a 42cm FSA K-Force carbon compact handlebar that has the flatter top section in the next few weeks if you're not in any rush....

Don't know what they're worth? €100? Not a mark on them, only sticky bartape residue....

Might well be interested, the current bars on the bike are 42cm. Mind if I ask why you're selling? Any pics of the bars on the bike for me to get an idea of shape?

Had 44cm bars on my bike before these, haven't been able to get comfortable with the smaller width so going back to 44cm ones.

Pictures on the bike with bartape probably won't give a good indication of the shape...

I probably won't get the chance to take them off til Monday week, but I can get photos of them without the bartape etc then if you're still looking/interested.

Is it just me or are there a few posts missing from this thread?

If you're interested in something more cheap and cheerful, I've a set of old FSA wing alu ergo bars knocking about, which you could have for €20. Let me know if you're interested and I'll stick up a photo a measure them. FWIW, I swapped these out for a set of FSA Omega compact bars, which I'm loving, also pretty cheap. I added some gel pads in the tops and drops for that bit of extra comfort, which might also be a low cost alternative to your current problem.

I have these bars on two of my bikes: I got them because they were available in size 46 cm. Big strong bars, perhaps more suited to the bigger cyclist with big hands. I'm very satisfied with them. Available from Evans and also, I think, Action Bike and Sigma Sport but only Evans delivers free to Ireland, I believe.

The worst thing about this is the sheer quantity of choice out there!! Plus, it's only when the bars are in use that you can determine if they are right for you...

Hi Colm, definitely interested in these. I presume being compact they have a smaller drop and reach than standard?

Cheers for that smacl - I reckon I might opt for a compact set of bars myself so to reduce drop and reach as well as increase the comfort with the flatter tops. Appreciate the offer and the tips as well! :)
