What say you AH? The start of the Irish 'Spring'? Or simply tilting at windmills?

'Anti-household charge protesters forced the abandonment of a meeting of Cork City Council after they occupied the public gallery of the chamber and began shouting and chanting slogans.
A stand-off continued for over two hours, with the protesters refusing to leave.
The protesters were initially welcomed by Lord Mayor Councillor John Buttimer, who told them they were not entitled to contribute to proceedings.
However, within minutes the protesters unfurled banners and began shouting questions at councillors about the property tax.'

Let's just vote in competent politicians instead. Shouting doesn't achieve much.

Don't bother. She's not one of the rebels and so my attempt at humour has failed, abysmally.

Does our political system as it stands, does our implementation of parliamentary democracy create a situation where it is probable or even possible that a competent individual will appear on a Ballot paper anywhere.

The answer of course is no. And if they're not there then you can't for one.

The political system doesn't stop competent individuals from running for office. Cynicism (like yours), and having to cooperate with incompetents that the system allows us to elect might have something to do with it.

And if you don't participate, by at least voting for the best of a bad lot, then your complaints are just noise.

I'm not complaining. I'm just passing on my observations. Maybe you're unable listen to opinions that differ from yours. I think the type of candidate and unqualified individual that universally appears on the Irish ballot paper points to a systemic problem rather than a prolonged bizarre coincidence.

You should ask yourself what format and design of our political system would lead to accomplished, talented and adept candidates standing in front of the electorate. Then it is obviously better to want that system than to continue voting for "the best of a bad lot".

Our political system as it stands is fine, it's the widespread favours and corruption among candidates and the elected - the abuse of the system - that's the problem. IMO. Maybe that's what you meant in the first place?
    I do listen.
    Crossed wires happen. :o

    Good on them.

Stand up and fight. Or don't, I'm easy.
