    Hi all,

My partner was supposed to sign on this morning but when he arrived at the office there was a lot of people outside and a few signs on the window saying the office was closed by order of the management.

There was no other information. He has tried ringing also but to no avail. He's going to go down in the morning but just wondering what the reasons they'd be closed at short notice like that for?

    It's odd.
I tried ringing up today and I never got through. I just chalked it up to most Social Welfare offices not picking up their phones (sadly happens alot I hear)

Hmmm, question tho, did your partner recieve a letter stating today was his sign in day? There has been a recent change up to sign in days. Alot of people still havent recieved letters.

No, no letter. His last sign on date was November, didn't have to sign for Christmas and today was the first signing day after Christmas.

By any chance did he follow what the website said:

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Pages/ChristmasArrangements.aspx

I got fooled by this too. 2 weeks ago I went down, as it states it was then my sign in day, girl at the hatch said sign in days are being changed around. Should get a letter. Still havent got a letter.

Ok, brilliant, he'll go down in the morning anyway just to see what the story is but thank you for that!

I dont know if that was your intention but you came off as so sarcastic with that reply :pac:

Lol, sorry, that was not my intention, was genuinely relieved because he was in a flap earlier over not being able to sign on!

    Just updating this:

Partner went down this morning and said it was mayhem... people everywhere (worse than usual). Apparently systems are down and they are doing manual sign ons so he had to sign a card. But he got to sign on today anyway.

Yep, it was mental. Took about an hour for me to get to the front of the queue, and half that time was spent outside or just inside the lobby. The queue was much longer when I was leaving and it was raining at that stage. I felt sorry for the girl ahead of me who queued for so long only to be told that she should have been in the much shorter queue for reception. It was her own fault though for not reading the signs.
