Is Spring 2013 looking like a poor patch for good movies?

Looking at whats coming out this spring there is nothing major that caught my eye, i know there is usually a lull after all the movies going for awards come out.

Is there anything ye are looking forward to on the spring releases ?

I personally think there's a decent mix of flicks out between now and the end of April (in reverse order) Iron Man 3, Evil Dead, Oblivion, Oz: The Great and Powerful, Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters, Cloud Atlas, A Good Day To Die Hard, Hitchcock, Bullet to the Head, Flight.

Out of those I'm most looking forward to Cloud Atlas, Oz, Oblivion & IM3, but I have an interest in all of the others. That's before the likes of Star Trek Into Darkness, Man of Steel and Elysium amongst others later in the year. Pretty decent, on paper at least.

Off the top of my head: To the Wonder, Stoker, I Wish, Flight, Cloud Atlas, Mama.

And there's JDIFF next month: The Place Beyond The Pines, among others.

Oblivion will be worth a watch. Cruise is always great to watch and this particular sci-fi movie will be interesting for another reason too as the final rewrite on the screenplay was by Michael Arndt soon to be of Star Wars fame.

Stoker (Chan-wook Park at the helm) looks intruiging and if anyone watched HBO's In Treatment you won't have forgotten Mia Wasikowska's outstanding portrayal of Sophie in season 1.

screw spring, first week of June Iron Man is kicking off what i hope is gonna be one epic summer of films:cool:,

till then though im mainly looking forward to The Place Beyond the Pines (Ryan Gosling), Oblivion (Tom Cruise), Evil Dead (though it would seem more appropriate to an October release, but whatever), The Host (mainly cause Saoirse Ronan is in it), Olympus has Fallen (oh looks like 90s cheesy fun, cant wait:D), and of course Die Hard 5:cool::cool::cool:

also ill probably check out Dead Mand Down (Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace), Snitch (Dwayne Johnson), Jack and the Giant Slayer, and OZ the Great and Powerful, curious to see what these are gonna be like,

i also believe Wreck It Ralph is out here in February,

It's part of what the RedLetterMedia crew call "Fcuk you, it's January" - January is a dumping ground for bad movies.

Dumping season in Ireland/UK is more February and March. January is actually one of the best time of the year for films as that's when we get all of last year's award contenders. In the last couple of weeks we've had Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, The Sessions, The Impossible and Django Unchained, with few more notable films still to come.

Same last year: Maragret, Martha Marcy May Marlene, The Descendents, Young Adult, War Horse, The Artist.

Even in the US, January is a good month as that's when most of these kinds of films go on wide release.

27th of March has been confirmed by the distributor. I have updated the Scannain calendar with this and all of the new IFCO ratings.
