Corolla or avens is

Currently own a 03 petrol corolla and thinking of changing to a diesel corolla or avensis 7 seater a few years younger.which are best spec and what should I stay we'll away from

I think from what you posted - you are looking at a diesel corolla 7 seater or avensis 7 seater?
A few points - lets start with the Avensis side
Avensis Verso 7 Seater finished in 2005. Petrol ones eat petrol and CV Shafts (€700 a piece) other than that are reliable. Diesel Avensis Verso are as rare as rocking horse poo.

Now the Corolla's
Corolla Diesel Saloon are pretty much bulletproof. The odd gearbox expires but pretty good machine (and economical)
Corolla Verso 7 Seater from 2004 onwards are good. Petrol model starter motors fail for fun but after that are pretty good. Diesel Verso again are hard to come by but reliable if a bit noisy to drive. New model came out in 2010 and is much nicer machine all round but you'll pay big bucks for one.
