I've been using the journal .ie for quite a while now and find the quick articles and news briefs of all descriptions really good and the format works brilliant, but I was just curious to know, does anybody else find the bickering, trolling and spelling checks etc posted by users after the articles really annoying?

Yeah. I hate that about the journal.ie.
That's why we all post here.

    In After hours.

I only view journal.ie for the mundane comments. There's stuff worth reading there?

I tend to ignore the bottom half of most of the Internet.

Youtube comments, other people's opinions on message boards, comments left by Joe Bloggs after articles, spoofer blogs on complex issues.

    Doesn't interest me.

Adam Buxton managed to create an entire tv show based on stupid user comments... so they're not all bad.

You read the comments? I gave that up a long time ago.

"Somebody got killed today. Oh then world must know how terrible I think this is"
"I have a keyboard, therefore the world needs my opinion. Also, I am so funny."
    etc.

Youtube comments do make me worry about humanity. Dont read the Journals comments. Occasionally read comments on Score.ie but its usually trolled by the usual ROG is better than Sexton/GAA is for bogger types who probably never kicked a ball in their lives.

You should probably change and get all your news from The Guardian site, that's where The Journal robs everything from.

Some people do get very worked up over it. Usually ends up with them getting lots of red thumbs.

Because a lot of the comments there are racist, xenophobic, mysoginistic, transphobic, homophobic, anti traveller

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Comments generally reflect the standard of content on websites so it's to be expected.

AH would probably be much better if you never read beyond the first page of a thread. It all gets silly(er:D) from then on. The Journal is much the same.

I always read them, especially the best and worse on in the Dailymail and their ilk. It gives me an insight in to how stupid some people are :)

I posted a comment there once.

Some of the people that comment there are very witty, I like reading their comments- yeah there are a few douchebags but sure they're everywhere.

I really like thejournal.ie, yeah they have a lot of light hearted/less serious stuff but they've lead the way lately on getting exclusives about the Troika and the bailout, ahead of RTE or anyone else. I think it's a good mix of serious and not so serious- I think a lot of people nowadays like their news like that- too bloody heavy and depressing otherwise!
