    Hello everyone
my wife bought a car on the 3rd of January and so far we didnt get the logbook
although the dealer said he sent it
now when we bought the car the dealer did not have the logbook in his office and said do not worry and that he will sort out everything
i called the dealer last week and he said it should be there this week

when i checked the tax web site it said that
    - the dealer bought the car on 30th of December
    - the dealer was notified on the 15th of January

this is the first car im buying in Ireland, so is this normal , or should i start to get worried ?
thank you all for your help

When you buy a car you must write your details on the log book and sign it.

It seems you didn't do so?

Not necessarily, alot of the bigger dealers can now change over ownership online these days. My guess is that they haven't chased up the previous owner for the old VRC.

AFAIK, they can change ownership on line, but must keep the paper records for audit purposes, so buyer should still sign anyway.

I bought a car on the 15th of Dec, only got the book yesterday. I bought another car on the 5th of jan and got the book about 6 days later. Continuity eh

I don't know what their excuse is but all I can say is just wait a bit more :)

No the dealer took my address and details and said he will sort it out
I am chacing the dealer on weekly I just wonder if it is just a matter lazyness from him or things might get worst?
As I can see from motortax.ie the cat ownership transferred to the dealer on the 15th of January

Maybe the dealer is waiting on a duplicate tax book ?

If the previous owner had handed the tax book to the dealer, the dealer would not have bothered transferring it into his name on 15th Jan, almost 2 weeks after having sold it to you ... he would have transferred it straight to you. But to get a duplicate it would have to be in his name / garage code.

    here is the latest ,,,

i contacted the Shannon and they said that they did NOT receive anything from the dealer and i should contact him.
i called the dealer and he said that i should get the book on Friday !!!
when i told him that i talked to the Shannon and this is what they said , he said that the previous owner lost the book and they had to transfer the car into the dealer's ownership and then to my wife's !!!
anyway Friday is not far away , lets wait and see

Just to let you know I bought a car on the 10th of Jan had the logbook on the 18th.

And that was all done by post.

The dealer is dragging his heals in your case.

The OP said the dealer didnt even have a log book to send off so he's sold it and is now dragging his arse on the ground like a dog with worms.

just a small question while im waiting for the logbook "which i really do not think it will be here by Friday"
is there a way to bypass the dealer and get the logbook since i have the receipt which has the Reg number ?

Dealer would need to have the serial number from the vrc to transfer into their name

As it stands thy need to do an rf134 for the previous owner, wait for new cert to come back then transfer into garage account, then into your name,

I will be shocked if they actually have it in your name on Friday,

From earlier post it has been transferred to garage account since 15th Jan. My guess is they then did RF134 form (in the name of the garage) and it's making it's way through the system (hopefully).

You can transfer to garage code without having VRC number, but maybe not online. I have often done it on cars from bank by filling out the RF105 stating "prev owner details unavailable" and attaching invoice from the bank.

yeah I think so because when i go to https://www.motortax.ie/PSE/pseVehicleSearchReceiving.do

and type in the Reg number im getting :

    Change Of Vehicle Ownership

    Purchased by a Dealer on : 30/12/2012

    Notified on : 15/01/2013

    Vehicle Registration Certificate

No Vehicle Registration Certificate issued in the last 3 months

but its still not showing anything regarding me :(
