I just bought a stunning 1.6 00 focus from a mate of mine, seems I got a good deal with 4 brand new tyres, new belt and water pump and a few months left on the ol nct :D I'm just wondering has anyone here owned one before and if so what are they like on petrol? I'v only had it since today so I wanna get some honest figures. What i'v gathered from driving it is they aint the fastest car around :p

Also any common faults to look out for? thanks lads

Hi mate i did a good bit of driving in my 1.6 never cost me more than 40 a week. Common fault is the coil pack but thats an easy fix.

Coil packs as another poster mentioned, rear wheel bearings, water can drip down onto the plugs causing them to fuse into the head, water can leak into through the pollen filter housing and into the multi function control unit causing it to fail eventually. Some also rust badly around the suspension towers in the engine bay. Oh and the fan inside for the heaters can go too in them.

These are all the faults I know of rare and common. Tbh they are a grand car other than that if a little overrated. They are also not very comfortable imo, but do offer a good drive.
