anyone notice that rotoavec has not worked this year, had vet out today taking blood and dung samples off calfs that were done for rotavec, have been told that one of the batches of rotevec last year was faulty and that is why it was not readly avaiable and was out of stock, anyway have started treating calfs now

they were done on 15 of dec , bought from the vet and used that day all the bottle, cows started calfing 15 jan and have 20 calfed now, mostly in the calfs born in last 2 week, when i was in the vets office a few months ago i was told that all the rotovec was gone only 1 bottle for someone that it did not work for last year, have been hearing more and more about there been a bad batch out there, rang about it today and they sayed they did not have any info on what batch it was,. vet also was saying she has been seen a lot of scour already and that its unuasual for this time of year sual more around april time

i assume by being faulty you mean the batch doesnt work at all, around here if a cow doesnt get the rc vaccine , we dont see the effects on the calf til its around 4-6 wks old when they get unsteady on their feet and have this real pasty dung, too late to do anything at that stage.... do you vaccinate for anything else aswell as the rc? will be interesting to see the results from vets tests. Heading down to vets later and will ask then did they hear anything, would be a disaster if true:(

It failed to work for me 2 seasons ago ,we sent off samples to the rvl of calves from vaccinated cows, they showed up positive for rotavirus. Rotavec crona is effective in controlling k99 strain. Rember that when you part with 11 euro for something that does not work.

My understanding is that a batch of vaccine was rejected after manufacturers testing of it. I don't think it reached the shelves.

asked in vets , they hadnt heard anything, they said that the op should wait til the results from tests come back beofre blaming 1 specific vaccine

not blaming it yet, but why would the manufacture send down a batch of rotevec for a custemer where the vaxcen had not worked, found this out from vet office

but there are so many variables, like did that customer inject it right. Was it stored properly etc. ALso was it given in the right timeframe.

yes but greysides said it is his understsnding that no faulty product entered the market.I wil adapt a wait and see approach before blaming a product used extensively on a public forun.
