i'd reckon most with chip timing would be.

Not meaning to be generalistic, but many of the local club organised 5/10k races may not. Compliance has improved in the past few years.

I would disagree with you here,

Most local Club races will have a AAI permit, even if they do not have chip timing,

A lot if Club races are small enough races, and dont got for chip timing to keep the costs down, but most will have a permit,

I'd think you have the generalisation the wrong way round. Athletics club run races will almost certainly be certified, other races are anyones guess.

Here is a list of races that have a permit,

    http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/licensed-fixture-list-2013.pdf.
I dont know how many of these would have chip timing but all Should be certified, ;)

    .

I didn't compile the list, as far as the title says its, Permit Applications, and i assume this is for Road Race and such like,

I dont know when it was updated or what is missing,

This is a list of Championship Races,

    http://www.athleticsireland.ie/content/?page_id=25786#month'

I do know of a few races that are not on the list, but have they looked for a Permit ?

But if you have a more updated on please feel free to post.

I wasn't being critical of you - but of the AAI.
A list of permitted races should be easily obtainable, and up to date.
All permits applications go through the central admin office.

However most of the growing number of GAA/Rugby/Soccer club organised ones will not.

Have ran AAI accredited road races preciously that don't have chip timing so must not be mandatory. Might be wrong here but think race organisers have to apply to the AAI to get their race AAI certified and have their course measured by an AAI approved official.

Personally I'm not a fan of chip timing. Lost count of the number of races where I've been robbed of a few seconds, even when there is a finish line photo with the clock overhead confirming the handtime I've clocked myself at, only to find out later that low and behold the official chiptime listed is anything from 2 to 4 seconds slower. What's even more annoying is when there are 2-4 different timing mats scattered at different locations before and after the finish line and you have no idea which one is the one that they're going with for official times (and no, it's not always the one straight after the officially marked finish line).

It's convenient for race organisers (re: compiling results), a money earner for companies providing chip timing, but by no means a 100% accurate way of clocking a time for everyone, and can be rather frustrating.

Rant over. Bit off topic but feeling better already :D
