We have decided to go to Cornwall/Devon for 11 days in late July. 2 Adults + 2 kids aged 4 and 5 years. We would love recommendation on Family places to stay, ideally self catering, but with activites for young children and near attractions. Were thinking 4 days in Devon and 7 Days in Cornwall.

There seems to be loads of options on the web, but would really appreciated first hand recommendations

We went to Cornwall last year and stayed here http://www.cryllacottages.co.uk/holidays_family.php, lovely and clean (we have no connection) and was a lot cheaper than anything else we had looked at. We took the ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke and drove down, it took about 5 hours. The weather was a bit hit and miss so because where we stayed was close to Plymouth, we visited the aquarium there, and Plymouth was grand for shopping and cinema etc. We did the Eden Project which both myself and my husband really enjoyed, the kids loved running around !!!! We had 2 days where we went to the beach, packed a picnic which had to eaten in the car between showers, but the beach we went to was Looe, which was about 20 mins away and was really nice, no dogs allowed, one of the only local beaches that didn't allow dogs. Because we stayed in these cottages, we had access to a leisure club a few mins away which was perfect for one of the rainy days and the restaurant attached to the club even had dinner specials and a playroom for the kids before dinner was served and afterwards so we could enjoy our dinner ! A lovely part of the world. On the way back, we cut the journey by staying a night in Bristol, just got a hotel with an indoor pool, which was grand. Enjoy.

English schools have different terms, and most finish for summer in mid to late July. As Devon and Cornwall are among the most popular areas for stay at home holidays, it can get very busy. If your dates are flexible, there's a lot to be said (and money to be saved!) by finishing your holiday by mid-July.

Narrow Cornish roads and a few slow-motion caravans are no kind of fun.

I agree with Nompere in relation to his comment on money being saved by finishing your holidays in mid-July, last year we went 14-21 July and UK schools finished on the 20th July and as we were travelling north on the A5, the amount of mobile homes we passed and traffic jams that we passed were unbelievable, to such an extent that the kids were making comments on them and counting caravans to pass the time !!!!

    Self catering sucks.

I went to Bournemouth twice in the last 3 years... you should check out Farmer Palmers which would be on the way to Cornwall I think. Love it!

we stayed in this cottage in 2010...the kids loved it. it's in weston super mare, you've got loads to do in weston, cheddar caves nearby. weston has a pier, beach and a travelling carnival comes every summer

last year we stayed at premier inn and it was half the price of the cottage.

anyway, just another option for you!
