Probably, I can't see anything wrong with it.

(PS: the hand book might say 5w30 for fuel economy but 5w40 is OK, especially at that mileage).

Tks lads. Should have said mazda main dealer gave it to me. Should I replace it for the 5w30. What the difference in the two?

A 5w40 oil is fine for that engine in our climate. Mazda list either a 5w30 or a 10w40 however Ford list a 5w40 as suitable for the same engine in their models.

These engines are prone to oil burning so using good quality oils is essential.

All multigrade oils start off as single grade (straight) oils and are chemically stretched to make them behave like heavier oil at high temperatures. In this case both oils are basically 5 grade. The 5w30 oil is a 5 grade oil that behaves like a 30 grade oil at high temperatures. The 5w40 oil is a 5 grade oil that behaves like a 40 grade oil at high temperatures. I would have no hesitation putting 5w40 oil in that Mazda engine.

With modern engines, the grade is only one part of the requirements though.

I could not agree more! I have a diesel that must get ACEA C3 oil, otherwise it will fu(k up the DPF. However, he only asked about the difference in grades and I tried to keep it non technical.
