Plaster cracking badly over our insert fire

    Hi All
Looking for a little bit of advice. We have a double sided fire insert in our new home. We were hoping to leave it a while before decorating around the inserts on both sides. Unfortunality the plaster has been cracking really badly. I understand that the heat is doing this but is there any way we can prevent further cracks? This picture is just showing one side of the fire place. Any advice on what to do we'd appreciate as is beginning to annoy me... I assume we can fix this some way? Or did we leave out some material that made this happen. Thanks guys as always :-(

Tap the plaster around the cracks with your knuckles. If there is a hollow sound the plaster has blown or come loose from the wall and is best removed and re-plastered. If it is not hollow sounding then rake out the cracks and fill with Polyfilla or similar.

You must use heat resistant skimming!
