started using 500 px , probably finish up with flickr (after 6 years) / keep my pix.ie - finding my feet , know a few others use it here - so maybe we can share details / or use as a general discussion - anyway here is mine

I use the free version. http://500px.com/AdrianSadlier A bit more selective than my pix.ie account. Still looking for the "right" site - maybe its time to set up my own. But then again, I haven't got enough decent shots to fill it nor enough of a stream of new shots to keep it fresh!

it's too dear for a full account, IMO. i only really put my favs up on it. good quality photos on the site, but i still prefer flickr over it.

yeah I had to stop looking at 500px in work for that reason

I used it for a while, definitely has a nicer layout than flickr, and a more bloggy approach but it's missing discussion groups. Discussion groups are, in my mind, the one thing that makes flickr unassailable as a site. Perhaps more so for people interested in the more ...esoteric... side of photography, there are almost certainly people there who have done what you're trying to do, and have created a group to talk about it.

Case in point, RA4 (colour) paper negatives. Not something you'd find much discussion about outside of APUG, but flickr has a group for it :-D

500px is very spammy; lots of copy/paste stupid comments.
i just uploaded 4 pictures there and within 2 minutes, i have over 20 mails. i looked back and saw the same damn comments on each picture copy/pasted from the same users...
"great shot! V+F please check out my work *insert link*"

well i suppose that's not as bad as flickr awards in the comments :rolleyes:

I'll be watching - the problem i have with flickr is a few odd ball/numptys - perhaps one day I'll just use pix.ie

or Safari for that matter (or whatever browser is on the iDevices). Apparently I can find 'pornographic content' ON THE INTERNET !

Of course that's probably the next step. Walled gardens. Back to the good old AOL days. Facebook are already half way there.

I use it. Much prefer it to Flickr. I've noticed the images I put only on 500px tend to be much less stolen than those on my Flickr - that and it's featured images sections is what Flickr's "Explore", used to be in terms of quality.

I like 500px its a nice site to be on..

where as flickr is a dumping ground and the website its self is fricken awfull to navigate even to look at.

i got the same email the other day. read the T&C's regarding selling images through 500px, and then deleted the mail lol

I got one of those messages a couple of months ago.

Thought about it, asked the question here, and decided against.

Possibly an attempt to get you to upgrade. But it's also very easy to accidentally hit the 'want to buy' button.

I considered the possibility of a genuine interested purchaser to be the least likely option. In my case anyway

anyone else getting a lot less activity on 500px, the past month, ever since it started to prompt for tags - regardless of whether I enter tags, getting virtually no activity - perhaps, it is just me, but used to get some great feedback.
