As the title says do you bring your camera to work, be it a simple point and shoot to a monster 1dx?

i do. i tend to bring my 5d3 with me all the time as i tend to have more time to take shots outside in my lunch break then in the weekends.

i sometimes even bring my 70-200 f2.8 to work like now!!

Last week my mate played a prank on me and hide my camera on his desk. felt like punching him lol so from now on i keep my camera locked down lol as sometimes i just leave it on my desk whilst away from my desk too LOL:eek::eek:

Serves me right for my mate playing a prank on me LOL

I have a laptop and gym gear to carry to work so my 5D II, Tripod & gear doesnt stand a chance. I dont ever leave home without my canon s95 and a gorillapod.

Ive found it indespensable on more than a few occasions. sure the 5d would have been nice, but the s95 is an amazingly versatile and high quality camera for a pocketable camera.

I go to the swimming pool after work every evening.

I'm not leaving my camera in a hot humid locker then taking it back outside into the cold (while carrying it in the same bag as my wet swim kit!)

I bring a small digital camera everywhere in my van. I live in Sweden and I am trying to get a good pic of hawks and falcons which I see resting on posts regularly along the quiet country roads I drive on everyday. Unfortunately, the dam buggers fly off every time I stop to get the pic!

insurance is key. At times its actually safer to leave gear in car then in a locker room lol.

i heard many people leave gear in their car!

You might want to double check with your insurance company that the full value of your camera gear is covered in your car (and at the time of day you are leaving it there).

looks like it can be covered depending on these things:
2.2 Theft of the Property Insured when from a vehicle
This section only applies if the required additional Premium has been paid and the cover is shown on
    Your Schedule
    What is Covered
    Within the Territorial Limits.
We will at Our option, replace, or pay the cost of replacing the item of Property Insured, with a similar article of like kind,
    functionality, and quality.
    What is Not Covered
    1. Any claim under £100
    2. Any Excess and/or Voluntary Excess as shown on Your Schedule
    3. Theft by a person or persons to whom the Property Insured is entrusted
    4. Theft when You have not complied with Security Requirement 3.3
    5. Theft when access has not been made by Forcible and Violent Entry
    6. Theft of a rigid bodied trailer containing the Property Insured unless the vehicle is stolen at the same time and subject
    to security requirement 3.3(j)
    7. The matching of any parts of a set or collection, not the subject of Theft
    8. Unexplained Theft
    9. Depreciation on Laptops and Laptop Accessories over 18 months old
    10. Theft when the Property Insured is not in a Locked Luggage Compartment of a vehicle

    3.3 Security Requirements for Vehicles
Theft whilst the item of Property Insured is in a vehicle shall only be covered in circumstances where:
    (a) The Property Insured is stored in a Locked Luggage Compartment
    (b) All doors, windows and other openings of the vehicle are left closed, securely locked and properly fastened
    (c) Access to the vehicle must have been by Forcible and Violent Entry
    (d) All security devices installed in the vehicle are in operation and
    (e) When Property Insured exceeds £10,000 in aggregate or an individual item exceeds £3,000, the vehicle must be fi tted
    with a Thatcham category 1 or 2 alarm/immobiliser
    (f) If the alarm/immobiliser is not factory fi tted, it must have been installed by a member of the Vehicle Security Installation
Board, and evidence of such must be provided in the event of a claim.
    (g) When You are outside the United Kingdom and it is impossible to comply with the Thatcham security requirements
specifi ed in 3.3(e), 3.3(k) or 3.3(l) in respect of loaned, hired or borrowed vehicles Theft shall only be covered if the
vehicle is fi tted with a factory fi tted alarm or immobiliser and evidence of its existence must be provided in the event of
    a claim.
    (h) Where possible, when at the Insured Location, the Property Insured, must be removed from Your vehicle and stored
    within the Insured Location
    (i) Any vehicle used must have
    • valid motor insurance;
    • a valid MOT certifi cate where applicable;
    • current road tax where applicable; and
    • all windows and locks that are capable of rendering the vehicle secure.
Requirements in addition to 3.3 (a) to (i) for
    (j) Trailers - where in a locked rigid bodied trailer it must be attached to the vehicle by a shackle bolt
    (k) Hatchback, four wheeled drive, estate car, MPV or SUV - where in a rear storage area of a hatchback, four wheel
drive, estate car, MPV or SUV a factory fi tted cover must be in place and if not available, the Property Insured must
be out of sight, and if the Value is less than referred to in 3.3(e) You must have a Thatcham approved Category 3
steering lock immobiliser fi tted to the vehicle unless 3.3(e) security is installed, whether required or not
    (l) Van, mini bus or campervan - where in a rigid bodied van, mini bus or campervan the windows must be obscured
and the Property Insured must be in a compartment not accessible from the driver’s area or, where the compartment
is accessible, the Property Insured must be out of sight, and if the Value is less than referred to in 3.3(e) You must
have a Thatcham approved Category 3 steering lock immobiliser fi tted to the vehicle unless 3.3(e) security is installed
    whether required or not

only bit i don comply with is "Locked Luggage Compartment" god knows what that means but no car has a locked luggage compartment and if they mean that your camera bag is locked then whats the point as the thieft takes the whole bag anyway.

Also, if they can easily break in your car, im pretty sure they can easily unlock a locked luggage compartment

    The boot?

What constitutes a locked luggage compartment? a locked luggage compartment is something like a glove compartment or something inside the car that has its own separate lock.

when its inside the boot, its not on its seperate lock because as soon as the theift break the window etc they have access to all stuff inside the car

generally speaking, if it's not in the glove compartment or boot, you're not covered.

looks like it can be covered depending on these things:

Did you pay the additional premium they talk about to cover theft from a vehicle ?

FYI my gear was stolen from my boot approx 18 months ago. The thieves were opportunists who broke into six cars in the same car park. On some they broke windows, on others removed the back window by cutting around the seals. They struck lucky with my boot! Thankfully I was insured, but I still had a few sleepless nights while the claim was being processed. On renewal my excess went up significantly if a future claim involves theft from the car again. I never leave camera gear in the car any more! You might think it will never happen to you, but it might...

Yes. I don't get a chance of taking pics very often, so if I'm going to have any moment free on the way in, or back, or in between, I'm not going to miss it. Can't take it in to work as it's not legal, unless specifically asked to take pics.

The camera stays in the boot, or under mess/a jacket somewhere in the banger.
The car is not in a public space during the day, our car park is pretty well supervised and nothing has ever happened there. I'm lucky not to be in a big town, I can go about my business and I'm rarely worried about it.

Of course mine is just a little K-x, cheap thing, I do have most lenses in the bag, but they're not the dearest of the dear either.

I like having one of the cheaper cameras for that reason, less stress.

I got a new job last week!
They've got a guarded car park that is overlooked by the security centre - it only holds about 400 cars and they drive around it every few minutes! So I brought my camera in for the first time ever yesterday.

Shot over to Howth straight after finishing at 2pm for a shoot in Howth. I plan on bringing it in more often, too - I need to shoot more often and the early shift is a blessing for it.

Since my only work at the moment is photography, yes, I do. Would I take it to a work place if I got a job? I doubt it, but there are going to be times I would, but would keep it in a safe place
