Anybody as a kid been threatened with 'Jonny Darkman'? Was in the canteen in work and we were discussing kids and discpline and the bogey man was brought up among other deterrents. I mentioned it was jonny darkman in our house and the room went quiet and everyone broke their shíte laughing at me

Nobody had ever heard of him. I reassured them that jonny darkman was to be feared and not to be laughed at and that he straightened out many a kid but they reckon i was the only one. Maybe its a Dublin thing, I was dealing with a gang of cluchies or maybe my parents were just sick and twisted to make up such a thing?

So who was your 'Jonny Darkman'? (bogeyman)

I was always terrified of the Nightman. Every night I'd try to fight him but he'd pin me down with his strong arms and sexy hands until he came inside me.

I was told the bogeyman lived in a blue plastic barrel down the end of our next door neighbours garden. I have been terrified of barrels since.

I was told there was 2 men living in my attic called Jack and Charlie...conveniently there was a spare mattress up there and we were brought up to be shown where they slept one night while they were 'out'

My Nan used to have a thing in her attic called the Clutching Hand, it was meant to be a disembodied hand that would come out and drag you up there if you didn't stay with an adult

Johnny Darkman used to be the name of the guy that would sell us coal.

He was called Darkman not because of his coal-covered face and hands but rather because of his dark moods and trouble with mental health issues.

We were a perceptive lot around our way in the 80's.

We had the Boodyman. Probably a kind of Lidl knock-off version of the Bogeyman.

I also had the man but he was only around when there was a tantrum being thrown in a shopping centre or resturant...

My parents used to tell me about the Boogeyman and Wee Willie Winkie (lol) coming to get me if I didn't go to bed on time.

One night the light on the back porch outside my bedroom window was left on. I was still awake when I saw the silhouette of what appeared to be a man with a big mustache. It walked by the window, audibly licked its lips, and then walked past.

Still to this day I haven't a f*cking clue what it was, and neither do my folks. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation, but it scared the sh!t out of me at the time.
