Heya, I've been cycling my bike a few weeks now and it has gone all rusty. I ordered this lube http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=1041 but I should degrease it before applying it. Rather than buying a specific one, do household things like dishes or oven cleaner work that I'd have already.

What is normal procedure for when you have cycled in the rain regarding your chain? I'd rather not let it get all rusty again.

This is probably overkill but something along these lines is a good idea to do once or twice a week depending on how often you are out in the rain. usually I put on degreaser first (use Muc-Off at present), allow it to stew for 3-5 minutes, then wash off with warm water, apply soapy water to all moving parts apart from shifters/handlebar area and wash off again with warm water. then use GT85 to remove water and lube moving parts. Takeas about 30 minutes to do the whole thing.
