For anyone who didn't see the notice on the site: http://www.orwellwheelers.org/news-and-events/446-coaching-nights.html

First night of this series is tonight, with the legendary Paddy Doran. He will be speaking on tailoring your training to peak for events. This is aimed at all levels, racers and also sportive riders. Details of time and place at the link.

If you're not following any training plan this will help you get your best form exactly when you want it, and if you are on a program it will help to give you a better understanding of what exactly your coach is trying to achieve.

I'll post reminders for the other nights here, if I remember. Won't be there tonight myself, but enjoy if you do head along.

Are the knights being coached, or doing the coaching? (if the latter put me down for Sir Bradley and Sir Chris):)

We're coaching people on how to be knights. Next week we'll move on to Barons and Baronesses.

Tomorrow is our evening on how to prepare for sportives, hosted by two gents who are established veterans - Dave Tansey and Denis Gleeson.

How does a veteran become "established" - is it simply passage of time, is there some kind of ritual or do you have to pass a test or something?

You've to collect a certain number of Kellogg's tokens.

And a bump for the front page on Monday. Won't make it myself tonight (physio, and I'm not a sportive rider anyway), but I'd recommend anyone, especially newcomers to the sportive scene, to head along.

Slightly more advanced topic tonight - Aidan Hammond will be giving a presentation on the SRAM Quarq power meter, and how to apply it to your training.

Anyone for the last of the coaching nights now!?

Puncture repair workshop tomorrow, bring a wheel to practice on. Also an opportunity to find out anything you wanted to know about basic maintenance but were afraid to ask.

...although you'll have to build up the courage to ask. But there are no stupid questions! :)

    How about:

    * If I shave my legs, by the power of aerodynamics will I go faster?
    * What's wrong with wearing nothing but a pair of ill-fitting GAA shorts on the bike in sub zero temperatures?
    * If I paint my entire bike in lime green, including the rims, will I look awesome?
    * If I wear lycra, will I catch the gay?

Yes. Coating your legs with baby oil will also reduce surface friction and help with your speed. Ask Lumen for more science.

Absolutely nothing, as long as you couple them with knee-high socks.

You will always look awesome on a bike, no matter what colour it is.

That's between you and your wife Phil.
