CITY ROAD CLOSURES DUE TO FLOODING

    January 28, 2013 - 12:27pm

The Wolfe Tone bridge at the Spanish Arch has been closed to traffic following heavy rainfall.

Galway Gardaí say the bridge has been closed after a heavy downpour and high winds pushed water from the river corrib onto the road.

Diversions are in place up Dominick street and Merchants road.

The Lough Atalia road has also been closed due to heavy flooding with traffic being diverted onto College Road.

A spokseperson for Galway City Council says it will be reopened when the area drains and flooding subsides.

The roads were very flooded this morning. I'm wondering are they still flooded and in what areas?

    Cross Street - Closed Mon 28th 3.30pm-6pm
That effectively closes one of the bridges westbound.

O'Brien's Bridge had been effectively closed westbound for traffic since the pedestrianisation of Shop St. In order to use it you have to turn away from the Wolfe Tone bridge.

Well, there's at least one local rep who would like to see a temporary barring order if not a complete ban.

By the looks of it his business got flooded.

Took a spin around Flood Street etc a little while ago as I happened to be passing and was amazed at how clean everything was considering the pictures from earlier and stories of sewers overflowing. Fair play to those involved in the clean up!
