    Hi Guys

Im currently doing the Higher Diploma in Computing course in WIT and as part of the course we need to complete 6 months work experience from June-December.

Is there any local companies that take on students from this course that people would recommend or are there any other companies in general that I should apply to?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hi deco72,

My cousin works out in TSSG in the WIT's Carriganore Campus. He says they always take on a good few computing students on internships during the summer months. It wouldn't harm you to send an e-mail (info@tssg.org) and ask if they would take you on as part of your course. At worst, you'll be told 'no'.

As an ex-computing student the situation in the current economy is that internships (i.e. unpaid) are certainly possible, even locally. However if you're looking for paid work placement then you'll have to be an exceptional student and you'd be very lucky to find a company locally which will pay you for placement.

I managed to get paid work experience with a telecommunications company back in 2009 but I was lucky as I had good grades and I also applied really early so I had the job by October 2008 just before the economy went tits up.

Anyway if you're determined to stay local then the TSSG is a great bet, it will look great on a CV and is infinitely better than doing some certs or a website just to pass the placement module, just don't have your heart set for getting paid in the TSSG for an internship! Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply yeah I think one of the girls on the course has got a place up there but only during the summer and dunno if will qualify for the work placement module. I will give them an email anyway.

I have applied for a place in Dublin which is paid and also going to apply for another one up there which is also paid. Thanks!!
