Always a date in our house when he was on Radio Telefis Eireann, another one of those unassuming talents that RTE managed to find a place for - Gerrit van Gelderen and David and Sally Shaw-Smith (Hands) being others.

Last week, I heard an nice interview with Éamon on Radio 1's Arts Tonight programme. The podcast can be found here.

Éamon very kindly donated over 60 years of his work to NUI Galway last year. It is great that his papers, film, animations, music and audio recordings will be there for future generations to study and enjoy.

The Éamon de Buitléar Archive is an exceptional and unique collection of multimedia material which reflects an outstanding body of work spanning some sixty years.

The Archive consists of various media including papers, scripts and manuscripts, animation, film and video, music and audio recordings, books and broadcast equipment.

The primary themes of the collection are film-making, the environment, traditional music and material relating to the de Buitléar family. Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge and the James Hardiman Library will digitise and manage the archive to facilitate access by researchers, students and the Gaeltacht community in the National University of Ireland, Galway.

He will be greatly missed. He was on tv only about a week ago - dunno if that was recorded or not. He told a very funny story on radio once about when he had a pet shop in central Dublin, and the comments of the ould wans on the hairstyle of a monkey he had. Anybody remember?
