    Any ideas on this please.

Male mid 50's on job seekers B. Doesn't have medical/doctor card and just outside qualifying limits.
Chemist bill is now €144 /month. As he is not working can he claim anything back on his drug payment scheme card. (chemist)
Are there any other ways of reducing this monthly bill. (apart fm stopping the meds !!)

    Thanks

Has he got a long term illness? He can apply on that basis.

That's the only one I can think of?

No he hasn't. I should have pointed that out.

I couldn't find anything myself but sometimes people just know things so I thought I'd give it a go here.

    Thanks.

If the only income in the household is jobseekers then he would qualify for a medical card.

JSB is means tested, so obviously the op(?) has savings.

DPS means drugs bill is capped at €144. Might be worth asking pharmacist for generic alternative or doctor for an alternative prescription.also if op starts working again this year he'll get up to 20% tax back.

JSB is not means tested. If this is the only household income, This person should apply right away for a medical card. The limit may seem low, but rent/mortgage can be offset against it. Do not presume that he wont get a medical card

According to the HSE's guidelines, if your income is derived solely from Social Welfare allowances or benefits or HSE allowances you should be granted a medical card even though your payment is in excess of the Income Guidelines for your age and situation.
