    Hi guys

i recently got a Nikon d3, the plan was to use my current 2.8 dx lens until the photography account alowed me to update!

i decided to go near bull island, Dublin tonight to test my gear with a night shot, the results are poor.

there is a very odd digital line appearing in the images.

Have you tried a non DX lens at all?

That would be my first thing to try. Have you ever used it with a non DX lens at all?

Take the battery out for a few minutes.

    Try the 2 button reset.

Clean the contacts on the lens and camera.

    Try another lens (non DX).

I know when I got my D3 years ago I was shooting a gig, 3200 ISO, low light and I got this weird banding of lines sort of similar to what you have there. It wasn't blue...more like streaks. I thought the sensor might have gotten hot (where you doing long exposures at high ISO?). It still shouldn't happen. I've shot 12 minute exposures at 6400 ISO in complete darkness with good results.

You can see the banding I'm talking about here:

    It never happened again though.

even try shooting with the lens off with fast shutter speed to see if anything shows up. you might have to use a fast shutter speed so everything isn't blown out.

If nothing shows up then it could be a good indication the lens and camera aren't that compatible.

Have you googled the lens/camera combination to see if anyone else has had issues with them?

the lens/camera combination isnt an issue. hopefully its just a connection issue between the lens and body!

That looks more like something wrong with the sensor than anything else. Doubt it could have anything to do with lens or lack thereof. They're obvious enough that they should show up on the image preview after you've taken a shot, see if they're there. Are they always in the same place ? The other thing that comes to mind is that there could be errors transferring the files from the camera. Most likely explanation is sensor related, though I hope I'm wrong...
