Looking at the Cycling Ireland website & their calendar of road races for 2013. Maybe I'm missing something but how do I know which races have a Ladies start separately?

I'm trying to plan a few races to start with & would prefer to do ladies start races but no idea from looking at the calendar which ones they are?

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

Anyone get an error on http://cyclingireland.ie/Home/Road/Calendar.aspx ?
Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.

Though I can see events on the calendar at http://cyclingireland.ie/Home.aspx

Is there an .ics URL or similar for just competitive road events?

Error for me too. And I've paid for my licence and all.

I managed to add the road calendar to my Googles - clicking the "+ Google Calendar" on the main page gives you the option of adding one or all of:

    irish dh
    irish xc mtb
    irish cyclocross
    leisure
    road

Not sure what DH stands for though.

What's the best way to find out some info about each of the races on the Cycling Ireland events calendar on the home page here? It lists the contact person and phone number but it'd be great to get details like if it's a handicap race or separate category races, profile of course etc. (I can find some on MapMyRide etc. from previous years but would be nice to know if it'll be the same route as before etc.).

Looks like first chance I'll be available to race will be 2-3 weeks from now, but it'd still be nice to lookup the races to understand which one to go for as my first proper one. Ideally that'd be nice and flat and a separate A4 race rather than a handicap, Ras Naomh Finian on the 9th March might be a runner but would be good to know a bit more about it and I'm sure there's other newbies who'd like to find out this info about the races coming up too.

Im afraid you're going to have to ring the contact number for each race you choose for the forseeable future as theres no other way of telling at the moment. To be honest this is where irishcycling.com is really missed as love him or hate him Tommy Campbell did his gig every Thursday morning and you would know exactly what format each race was going to take. This weekly round up is and will be more missed as the season goes on I feel.Stickybottle is a great site but is less domestic race related.

The 5th is a Friday, and the following weekend is Balbriggan - Harry Reynolds Mem. on the Saturday, Ben McKenna Mem. on the Sunday.

edit: Just noticed the calendar has the Harry Reynolds at 4am! Night racing ftw!

Suitable for female racers of all fitness and ability levels, I'm running a block of 5 x 1.5-2hr Racing Skills Masterclasses over five Saturdays (9.30-11.30am) from next Saturday 2nd February 2013 at Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, Dublin 22. Although organised on behalf of Orwell Wheelers, these sessions are open to all including youths, members of other Clubs and total novices who have never raced before but would like to race this year. Properly serviced racing bike & helmet essential. Remember to bring warm clothing, spare tubes, pump, drink, snack, money & licence. As the track is booked for an additional hour after each session, feel free to practice what you've learned or train there afterwards otherwise you can go on a self-guided group spin with the other attendees. Yeh, it's a real pity that there's no real detail published well in advance to help people plan for racers. Most sportives publish their routes online so people can download them onto their devices and that's more for convenience - for a race, it'd actually have practical benefits to get a look at the route profile in advance, know what point the hill comes at etc. so it seems a big miss in my opinion.

I've emailed StickyBottle.com to suggest they look into stitching up this area of news provision as it'd probably attract plenty of racers to their site.

I've also texted most of the race organisers for Leinster races (and one in Sligo) for March and here's what I've pieced together so far (will update as I get more responses) - sharing as it may be of interest to other A4 racers:
    • Lacey Cup - 24 February 2013 - ?
    • Mick Lally - 02 March 2013 - ?
    • Cycleways Cup - 03 March 2013 - Separate A4 race which is 75km
    • Naomh Finian - 09 March 2013 - Think this might be a handicap
    • Newbridge GP - 10 March 2013 - Separate races. A4 will be 3 laps of a 17km circuit so 51km.
    • St. Patrick's Day Race - 17 March 2013 - Pretty sure it's a separate A4 race about 65km with 2 laps and a run-in (it was last year)
    • Lucan GP - 23 March 2013 - ?
    • Mooney Trophy - 23 March 2013 - ?
    • Des Hanlon - 24 March 2013 - Separate A4 race of 65km
    • Ros on Laois - 31-Mar - Separate A4 race which his 52km, 2 x 26km laps

with all due respect I wanted to update the calendar and make it better. I asked in a previous post for anybody to send me ideas and garmin type profiles and I would try give a more comprehensive overview of the events. I got no replys. Some might think that we should be doing it off our won bat but we dont have gps files etc.

there needs to be better information sought from the organisers and this should happen now that safety statements are mandatory.

Apologies if that seemed like a criticism of Cycling Ireland's site which was not the intention. With the number of races involved, I can fully understand that CI can not manage documenting all the details and route for every race, though hopefully they could share whatever detail is provided by race organisers (which it seems is exactly as you have already sought to do).

So the intention is not to criticise anyone specifically, it's more to highlight that this is information many racers would likely find useful - ideally race organisers could then find a way to provide that info. E.g. if a race organiser provides some text describing the race structure and distance (as done for the Cycleways Cup already) and optionally a link to a route map on MapMyRide or similar, could that be added to the race calendar? If so, hopefully race organisers would then be aware of that and could email on the details. Have to say that the race organisers I texted asking for info were very helpful in quickly getting back with the details, so it's not a big deal if the above isn't workable, though it's a nice-to-have.

I didnt take it as criticism and tbh I dont mind criticism! Its an area that needs to be improved. Each event should have its own page with a lot of the data you mentioned available.

Resurrecting this thread as it only showed races through end of April. Below is the latest I can piece together from the Cycling Ireland Calendar for May and early June for Leinster (too many to start adding every province - maybe someone from each province might add their view).

There's already a thread on here for the Frank O'Rourke. A recent thread suggested the Mark Hayden was cancelled - has this been confirmed?

The Sam & Betty D'arcy Memorial Race for 26 May is listed on the CI calendar as cancelled. That could potentially mean there's no race in Leinster between 12th May and the Enfield GP on 4th June, is that correct? Pity if so, the demand is clearly there. People could look at races in other provinces, but distances can make it quite a commitment.

    Frank O'Rourke 05-May Separate A4 Race
Dunsany GP 12-May Separate A4 race
Shay Elliott Memorial 12-May A3-A1 only
Mark Hayden 19-May Separate A4 Race - maybe CANCELLED?
Time Trial League Round 1 22-May
CANCELLED: The Sam & Betty D'arcy Memorial Race 26-May
Time Trial League Round 2 & Leinster 10 TT Champs 29-May
Duane Delaney Track Grand Prix 01-Jun ?
Enfield GP 04-Jun Handicap or separate?
Time Trial League Round 3 & Mens Louth TT Champs 05-Jun
Sean Nolan Meath GP 09-Jun Separate A4 race?

Does anyone know if the Enfield GP and Sean Nolan are Handicap races or have separate A4 races?

The Sundrive track is only down the road from me so I'd be interested in the Duane Delaney Track GP - is it aimed at roadies or is it a track event (i.e. is it an A4 race that happens to be on the track or is it a track event with track bikes etc.)?

The Time Trial League sounds interesting, think there's a separate thread on that around here somewhere. Interested to learn if it's split by category and if points earned in these events can count towards upgrades. The relative lack of races in May may help numbers for the time trial league, would be good to see it get off to a positive start (though for me I doubt I could do it regularly, too much already on my schedule).

Duane Delaney is a track event, with track bikes compulsory - see www.trackcycling.ie for details of previous years, but track accreditation is required

The TT League is the one put on by Cuchulainn in Dundalk, not the league mentioned in a separate thread here. Details will be on their website, but all TTs will be held around Dundalk

A2 minimum licence for the Elliott, not A3.

Thanks for the updates folks, revised list below includes only road races. Fairly slim pickings for the next month by the looks of it...guess that's more time for longer weekend spins to build up the endurance in the meantime so.

    Frank O'Rourke 05-May Separate A4 Race
Dunsany GP 12-May Separate A4 race
Shay Elliott Memorial 12-May A2-A1 only
Mark Hayden 19-May Separate A4 Race - maybe CANCELLED?
CANCELLED: The Sam & Betty D'arcy Memorial Race 26-May
    Enfield GP 04-Jun Handicap
Sean Nolan Meath GP 09-Jun Separate A4 race?
