rear wheel problem

got 2 punctures last week with the bike in the house and just punctured out of the blue, it was the section of tube against the rim that was punctured. Changed the rim tape and today the same thing happened. there is a big hole in the tube and rim tape, like the spoke just shot through it. On top of that I was out yesterday and noticed my back wheel wobbling on a couple of occasions but thought it was oil on the road or something. Got home and noticed that my back break pads, which were almost new, were nearly completely worn away. Had a service recently and everything was fine. The wheels are Mavic Ksyrium equipe.

Possibly caused by excessive amounts of road grit (i.e. for frost/snow) acting as an abrasive on pad and rim.

that was my first thought but to wear out more than half a pad in two hours seemed a lot.
