I'm living in north Galway and want to build an extension onto our house. Only going to do this once and really want to get it right. Would love to get an architect to design it but have no idea how to go about sourcing one. How does it work? What if I get someone and don't like there ideas?? Is there an initial meeting where they have a general chat and talk about some possiblities and then if I like what I hear, we hire them? As u can see I'm clueless! Can anyone recommend an architect in Galway? Have looked at a few websites but alot of them only show commercial buildings or new builds....I'm looking for someone with experience of renovations and extensions. Thanks

Some good info in this recent thread which you could read.

You should also post in this thread in the usual format.

Just to add that when looking for an architect or architectural technician you should have a look around at work done by others and knock on a few doors and see who they got. Ask family and friends who they would recommend and even have a look through the Councils website (planning section) and you will be able to view the various planning applications and plans, maps etc and see whose name pops up most often :)

When you finally find your architect, you might find this post interesting:

Interesting that the title of that thread is 'what to ask architect at first meeting' and the question was answered.

when that question is asked here I'm sure a similar response would be offered.

But until then we will always qualify our advise here by stating that it is not to be taken as an alternative to on site real time advice.

Some nice grave digging there, well done.

Perhaps you should actually read those threads.

Please don't patronise me, you made a statement
when that question is asked here I'm sure a similar response would be offered.
The Term '' Grave Digging '' is insulting, I merely used the Search facility available, and yes I did read the Thread's.

seeing as those threads are 4 and 3 years old respectively, grave digging is the correct phrase to use.

if you want to start your own current thread please feel free.

LOL, this thread is a contradiction to that statement. OP's question was answered perfectly by oraiste in just 12 words!
