I want to put xenon bulbs in my mitsubishi colt 1.3 1999 in the headlights. I presume the bulbs in it are halogen. Can I just swap bulbs or is there work to be done first??

You need a HID kit, but they look awful in reflector lights but more importantly dazzle other drivers if not focused properly.

If you want a xenon look you could try different bulbs, if you want more light you could try osram night breakers or similar.

Yup halogen. You can get xenon filled halogen type bulbs. Have a look here for decent ones

Plus hids in h4 hi/low are crap and need extra wiring compared to a h1 or h7 kit

Well it would be pretty pointless as you won't have them on very often ;-) just get something like Philips blue vision that's in the kink above. They have that blue/xenon look but won't blind everybody on the road. Xenon/hid kits only look well in cars with projector lights which your Colt dose not have. They look tacky in normal lights and besides blinding everyone else on the road the guards are also cracking down on them so just avoid getting yourself in some bother! You could also wire your fogs to come on with your hi beam so you will get some extra use from them!

Yes, if the front lamps have different colours it looks like **** in my opinion. Then again I'm not a boyracer, maybe it's the fashion now :D
Are you getting Xenon because because they look cool or because they are brighter? There are better alternatives as mentioned above, Nightbreakers or Philips Blue.

Nightbreakers will not give you a Xenon effect, for that you would need Philips Bluevision, or whatever Osam do. The blue vision give either 4000k or 6000k white light.

Osram Nightbreakes and Philips Xtreme vision are designed to give more light on the road. ie Nightbreakers give 90% more light, Xtreme Visio give 100% more light.

As for putting Xenons in, you would need a HID kit or replace the electrics and headlight units to Xenon. Remember proper Xenon bulbs cost north of €60 each.

    Don't go zenons.

Apart from road legal thing, you'll blind other drivers.

As been said, go nightbreaker plus (they last longer than ordinary nightbreakers), or philips blue vision. Alternatively osram cool blue. :)

Vote for nightbreakers! Top notch lights.

I have used and sold both sets, Osram and Philips, the Philips give as better light and last longer. Both used in the same car. Got about 2 years on the philips, including the 1 cold winters, got less than 1 year on the osrams.

I changed my dipped bulbs to osram night breakers and changed my dads dips on his octavia to the same bulb. I couldn't recommend them enough. Specially in my dads car as the previous bulbs were terrible. They cost about 20 euro for a pair which is small money compared to going down the xenon route.
