Seems to be down for me right now. I think they do maintenance at weekends sometimes.

Ah come on now, please tell me you're joking - how many online services are available 24/7 all year round (even Boards has downtime occasionally!)

It says on their main website that it will be down today. In fact that message has been up for 5 days.

I wasn't aware that the website was down.. I only use it about once a year when I recieve my P60. And seeing it is a Saturday it was a great time to sort out my taxes. Yes I agree every website has downtime for maintenance, but I work in IT and it isn't difficult to put up a temporary page indicating that the service is off line and notifying when the service is available again. In my organisation if this wasn't done we would get slated... especially at a busy time when most people would be doing exact what im doing. If the service isn't available 365 days it shouldn't be advertised as being so...

It is available today, it was only offline for a few hours, de-twistify your knickers and get on with it...

By the way we're way ahead of most other countries when it comes to the level of online self service available to taxpayers - for example AFAIK there is no equivalent service available to PAYE taxpayers in the UK.

But some people will never be happy I suppose!

Nope, not in the IT dept.

I agree they could've made it more clear about the down time, but in your OP you used the phrase "shoddy service" which is hardly fair. By any objective measure it's hardly shoddy service. And you clearly weren't happy, or you wouldn't have felt the need to trash the service in your OP - if that's you happy, I'd hate to see what you post when you're unhappy.

You then complained about them suggesting that it's a 365 service; the outage was what 6 hours, so I was just pointing out that this outage hardly invalidates that claim.

Oh get over it... I have.. get a life... I was unhappy because the only one time in a whole 12 months that I wished to use the service it was down... so in my opinion it was shoddy. .. I will have to do it anothere time.. btw Ihis doesn't require a response just leave it...

Sorry that makes no sense, now you're saying it's shoddy because you couldn't use it the one time in 12 months that you wanted to.

Even if there was a big shiny message on there telling you about the down time it wouldn't change that fact, so your issue appears to be with the fact that there was an outage at all.

For someone who says they work in IT, and presumably understands how these things work, that seems a bit silly.

Oh it's regularly down, seems to be very buggy, but that doesn't mean the OP was right! ;)

If it was "planned maintenance" then once they do not go over their change-window they can say it was up 100% of the time, Got to love SLAs

I don't experience any bugs with it at all. As stated by other posters other countries don't even have a service like this.

Without ROS administering my (small) business would be a massive hassle.

You're quoting myself back at me! ;)

I'm referring to PAYE anytime specifically, ROS practically never goes down, but PAYE anytime seems to be prone to the odd outage.

    Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEcvamtIO8w
