Scott CR1 Team 11 or Scott CR1 pro 11

    Hey there,

I could do with a little help on choosing between the following 2 road bikes.

I can purchase a Cr1 team 11 with 105 and Mavic Aksiums for €1700 (was €2300) and I can get the CR1 pro 11 with Ultegra and mavic Ksyrium Elites for about €2000 (was €3100). They both have the same frames and finishing kit.

I am going for a CR1 as it fit's me quite well, it is less aggressive and has a bit of comfort built in to the frame which is my main priority.

I am just wondering is it worth getting the pro for an extra €300 and would the mavic Ksyriums give a much harsher ride the Aksiums. I would sacrifice the lighter wheels if I got a noticable less harsh ride with the Aksiums.

Finally should the CR1 pro really cost an extra €800 originally.

    Thanks

Looking for something less agressive and not as race ready (a bit of comfort in the frame) as the Addict.

Also doing bike (not frameicon11.png) to work which will take care of a €1000 up front, where I will pay back about €470 over 33 weeks so in effect my initial outlay will be between €700 and €1000.

From a performance point of view I can understand getting the Kysriums but just wondering if they give much more of a harsh/hard ride over the Aksiums as I am looking for comfort more so than out and out performance.

Also just wondering if the Ultegra and Kysriums were worth an extra €800 originally as not sure of the cost difference between them and 105/ aksiums in 2011.

I'm not sure where you're getting the harsher ride bit from. I'd say it's very likely that if you blind tested me on a bike (were that possible) on a set of 200 euro aksiums and then 1000 euro kysrium sls's and asked me to tell you which was which I would guess wrong as often as I would guess correctly!:) But there's no reason why a more expensive and lighter wheel would be harsher to ride. Generally speaking in my experience, higher spec wheels "feel nicer" to ride.

At the end of the day 105 is great. Aksiums are great wheels. Ultegra is great too and I really like the look of the new elites. The 800 quid new difference - isn't a million miles away from the individual component prices when you add em up. If that was the price differential now then you have 800 valid reasons for going for the 105 set up. With the difference being only 300, then in my opinion it's well worth shelling out, and would actually be slightly churlish not to go for the ultegra set up.

I have the cr1 team from 2010, came with with 105 and Mavic Aksiums

upon advice, from some one much more in the know, I upgraded the wheels to Krysium elites.

now the aksiums are spares, but there is a difference depending on which wheelers are on.

Mostly ride the bike with the Krysiums now. Seem to be free' er flowing, better hubs, and stronger.

Thanks for the info. I have been useing a variety of bikes over the last 8 years or so but my knowledge of the differences between higher grade components is limited. I am coming of a Giant FCR1 and I am just trying to figure out questions I have in my head about higher grade components. I am sold on Ultegra for the limited extra outlay but I was unsure what differences are there in wheel sets. You have answered questions I had in relation to the differences between Aksiums and eiltes so thanks for that.

I am fairly sure now that I wil go for the CR1 Pro so can't wait (once I check that we have enough money for the forthcoming wedding icon7.png).

    Thanks Michael,

I really wanted to go for the Pro so all the posts are leading that way. Can't wait to try them out (once I'm allowed spend the money ;)).

I find that spending the money first and then applying for retrospective permission to be the best approach. :)

If it comes in under the cost of the wedding dress you are fine. I made a mistake of buying something expensive before my wedding that cost more than the wedding dress and I nearly got ditchted!

As far as I am aware the Pro is €60 dearer that the wedding dress, but is she really telling me the truth. I can always throw in the cost of the bridemaids dress if I need to win the argument :p.

Don't worry the funds will be coming from the Cayman Islands account so there will be no paper trace. ;)
