    Hi folks,

I got a quote for Platinum insulated slabs with no vapour barrier in them and also for Polysio slabs with vapour barrier. Was told that Platinum resists mositure even though there is no foil backing on them? R value is 0.022 for Polysio and 0.029 for Platinum. Said the Polysio wouldn't be as good or last as long thermal resistance wise as the Platinum. I'm a bit concerned as the platinum is cheaper but better according to guy selling them so not a case of selling the dearest product? Anyone any experience with Platinum or unbranded Polysio?

firstly those are U values, not R values.

secondly it sounds like the platinum product is the grey polystyrene that is more commonly pumped into cavities.

the polyiso is "polyisocyanurate" or sometimes refereed to as PIR inculation. This is the whitish yellow foam sometimes called 'kingspan'.

    They are two different materials.
The PIR is a better insulator and thus is the more expensive product.
Whether or not you should go with the PIR or polystyrene really depends on the specific application and the thickness's involved.
