Router Security

    Hi all,

I have a quick query. I'm using an Edimax 3g router linked by Cat5 cable to a Linksys router in another part of the house and getting a pretty good connection too!!

My query is this::: The Edimax router is currently unsecured and I was wondering if I changed the security settings in the Edimax router will it affect the connection to the Linksys router (bearing in mind the Linksys is hardwired to the Edimax)??

Hope this isn't too confusing (or stoopid) a question lol

No it wont affect the connection to the Linksys as that is cable. I assume the security you are referring to is the wireless key or the password to access the router's configuration page.

Yes that's correct, the Edimax is currently open and unsecured and I want to amend that. However, I might have to factory reset the Edimax in order to change the security settings (the router was given to me by someone and they can't remember if they set up a password with it). If I do a reset on the Edimax the link to the Linksys will still be OK won't it?

No it should be fine. Can you get into the Edimax configuration page? If you can then there is no need to do a factory reset. From the configuration page you should be able to reset the wireless security and key. You should also be able to set/change the password for access to the configuration page.
