Im travelling to Italian and Switzerland in a week, and I've just found out its not a standard European socket they use in Italy, I just wud like to know whether I would still be able to use my Irish-European converter in hotels in Italy?

I have always user my European coverter travelling in Switzerland and Italy and it worked just fine. Most hotels would have some to borrow for a small deposit anyways if you find it won't.

The two pin plug will generally fit into the 3 pin socket, so most adaptors work. You won't have an effective earth, but this is not a problem for phone chargers and the like.
