Front derailleur damage!

I've only gone and Schlecked my chain into my front derailleur this morning. Bah!

It looks like the outer part of the derailleur has been bent outwards.
Does anyone have any tips for bending this back in?

Advice like : "don't do this, it won't ever be right, your chain will slip, and you WILL die"
    , or
"I regularly take a lump hammer to the precision components on my bike, and I'm just fine and dandy"

    Thank you.

Some thieving little **** gave my front derailleur a boot trying to break my lock, I tried to straighten it up using the ""I regularly take a lump hammer to the precision components on my bike, and I'm just fine and dandy" approach.

Didnt go well, ended up replacing it, wasn't too expensive, about €30 fitted at the LBS.

This happened me a few weeks ago, so I muscled it back into something approaching the correct shape, and continued to without any problems for a few weeks.

Then one morning last week I suffered what can only be described as catastorphic failure. The outer part of the front derailleur cage just broke off and hit the deck and my chain snapped, all at once.

Not sure which came first, possibly the chain broke first and caused the front derailleur failure. Although the front derailleur had to actually break in 3 places for the outer cage to dettach fully from the rest of the derailleur, and you'd imagine you would feel if the chain had snapped and it got all snagged up on the front derailleur.

I must admit whilst definitely a pain in the ass, I was more than a little pleased with myself for getting to use the spare KMC link I've had on my keyring for years :)

So basically.... if you caveman your front derailleur back into shape you will suffer a catastrophic failure... or maybe not

    Yeah!

PS. I've got a new shimano 105 triple band-on for sale ('cos they sent me the wrong one) if you want. EUR15...

PPS. My opinion above may (or may not) be affected by my PS above...

    :D
