Slimline Optical Drive from laptop

Hi, I have an old HP Pavilion tx2000. It's broken but has a perfectly good DVD slimline optical drive. It has a parallel ATA connection. Could I use this in my HTPC build. It's my first build and was just trying to harvest some old parts, wondering if this was worth my time. Regards Will

Does the board have Ide? You can buy an adapter for about a fiver, but a new Sata DVD drive is not much more than a tenner. If it's a HTPC you should be considering Bluray
