Hi all, does anyone know of a flat 5km route in Shanganagh, Marley park or anywhere in southeast Dublin? I'm not really a runner just wanted to see roughly what kind of time I would post. The only place I can think of is between the sli na slainte markers on Bray seafront or in the Phoenix park. I live in Kilmacanogue
    Thanks

Well, ParkRun will be holding free 5k race in Marley every Saturday from 9th March. Not sure if the details of the route are announced yet, but will be a good start to check your 5k time.

The inner loop of Marley (which circles the field beside the big house on the grounds is exactly 1k, so five loops of that would give you a good benchmark too and it's flat.

Shangannagh Park has distance markings on the path, though some of them will have been removed during recent structural/digging works. The path surrounding the very first field (beside the playground/play area) is 800m, so if you do 6 laps and one length of the pitches, that is approximately 5kms.

Alternatively, if you follow the path around the entire path perimeter (without crossing the tracks), the distance is 2.1kms. So if you do two laps (following the path) plus a lap of the 800m field nearest the road, that's also 5kms. Note, the paths have changed a little over the last couple of months, but the difference is probably pretty negligible.

Any resemblance to a male appendage is purely coincidental.

That's my winter night-time 10k route right there; 4 laps and to/from the house. The paths are decent and smooth with only a few spots prone to puddles, its good enough to do without a torch. I'm amazed how people run with just a spot of light 3 feet in front of them. (Fair enough on unfamiliar trails).

And Krusty? I'd see a doctor about that if I was you!
