On local news here in Galway today on Galway Bay FM, wonder what changes this will have for Aer Arann.

    News

PADRAIG O CEIGHIGH RESIGNS AS CHAIRMAN OF AER ARANN

    January 25, 2013 - 9:16am
Well-known Galway businessman, Padraig O Ceidigh has resigned as Director and Chairman of the Aer Arann group.
Mr. O Ceidigh acquired a majority stake in the airline in 1994.
UK transport group, Stobart has now secured complete control of the airline.
It's understood Padraig O Ceidigh has ended his association with Aer Arann, primarily for personal reasons.

Can only be good news imo. StobartAir already operate two airports so the heritage is there.

I doubt it will change much as the EIR operation seems very successful for both parties.

We may see Stobart expanding as EIR or RE?

Haven't they been a major shareholder for a few years now?

Yes. And if I'm not mistaken, they own SEN aswell. Perhaps we might see RE shift focus towards London in the future?

Or maybe towards a LoCo airline out of Southend? They've got the AOC now. Will we see Airbuses in Aer Arann logo? Or perhaps a re-branding?

    Stobart Air anyone?

hmmm. There was some discussion a while back about Stobart getting into airfreight. Just saying maybe watch this space...

I would say no significant change, but strange no announcement on new ATRs yet.

Now if Ryanair get Aer Lingus now that could change Aer Arann's situation.

Lads you may take the rose tinted glasses off Stobart is an absolute cnut to work for in the road transport industry he is like FR only worse,As for them competing with the bigger boys on the freighter end of things they would chew him up and spit him out.
And another thing if EI was to cancel the regional contract with RE(which I would not like to see) a part from the RE staff having to find work elsewhere Stobart would be left with aircraft in pax config and it would cost a considerable amount of $$$ to change into a freigther then trying to look for business for them.

I think if Stobart wanted to get into Air Freight they'd have bought Air Contractors instead!

Would this be good news for Waterford airport perhaps?

sounds like a disgruntled ex tesco trucker. - Stobart now control all Tesco distribution and do a great job. He is known for not liking union types who always are looking for some excuse to down tools. - I hate those types too.

as for aer arrann, I'd expect an expansion with stobart onwing it outright.

Yes, must be good news for Aer Arann, Stobarts might now look at Aer Arann doing routes from Southend into Europe. Thinner routes not suitable for Easyjet Airbus 319s.

For one I'm not an ex tesco driver but I do know quiet a few and believe me working for stobart is like hell,Considering the older employed tesco drivers managed to keep there old T&C yet the stobart mgmt are watching every move these drivers make and one slip up and there out,How would you like working in an environment watching your back every minute while working I can tell you it's not very pleasant.;)
All I can say is your a very naive boy/girl if you think stobart is up there with the best employers in the industry and believe me I know having worked for a major cargo airline along with other major blue chip companies in mgmt positions.
No wonder the RE lads all joined IALPA after all stobart pays the min wage for his drivers, So the next time you see one of those stobart trucks on the road which would cost approx 4k to get the licence just think to yourself the responsibility those drivers have yet they get paid the same as someone working in a shop.;)
