    Hi,

Is there legislation governing the setting up of any of the above. Where might I find info on doing it?

    Thanks

There would be a rake of it; from Revenue to Health and Safety. Is there not a good book on the subject or a short FAS course?

would be necessary to register it as a company or what?

I would have thought you'd have to register somehow - perhaps as a sole trader. I'm afraid I know very little about this. Have you tried a business forum?

Well, you'll need appropriate planning permission for the premises, obviously. Talk to your local authority about that. Plus, I'm pretty sure you have to register with Failte Ireland. They'll want to inspect and rate the premises. And you'll need to talk to Revenue about the formalities involved in conducting a small business.

I'd start with Failte Ireland. They have an interest in promoting guest houses and tourist accommodation, so they can probably give you a pretty good steer on what you need to do and who you need to talk to.

Whilst off-topic I'd seriously reconsider getting into this game if I were you OP.

There is a huge over-supply of accommodation in Ireland, every voucher scheme going has amazing deals on hotels (because the hotels can't sell the rooms themselves at full price) and prices have plummeted. What would make your Guest House stand out? Would you have no competitors locally? That would be the only reason to set up, if there was no-one else doing it in the vicinity and you would have tourists coming to the area anyway.
