Poor radio reception

My car is on its original cd / radio ( 11 years old) but lately there has been a lot of hiss and interference on radio. This could be on any station at any time and be fine a while later.
I changed the aerial (roof mount screw in type) but it did not make any difference.

Do older radios get tired after a while ; should I consider a change or is it more likely to be something else entirely?

Does it only happen on the radio, or on the CD as well (ie; could it be the speakers)?

Connection loose somewhere I would have thought, somewhere between the aerial and the radio. Does anything happen when you drive over bumps?

Yes , only when on radio which is why I thought aerial at first.

How to find it though is the prob. Aerial is on centre rear of roof so would have to take roof lining down.
Might it just be easier to fit a complete new aerial I wonder?
Where is the easiest place to do this? Front wing maybe.

Driving over bumps had no noticeable effect this evening.
