will ntl box work with no subscription like a sky box will??

Hi all, quick question for all of you! :) Basically, my sister is moving house and there is already a sky dish installed there. She has a really old choras/ntl box though and was wondering if she brings that to the new house will that work with no subscription like a sky box would? Thanks a milion
