Hi. I want to avoid getting a taxi as I have been quoted 20 euro for that journey. Anyone have any better idea of making the journey at 6am cheaply? Can't cycle as I will be catching a connecting bus.

    Thanks.

There are afair two early buses passing near at around 6am.

The 05.20 7 from Dalkey comes up Nutley Lane, past donnybrook garage and to the city via ballsbridge. Gets to the city around 06.20
There was also an early 84 passing by UCD at a similar time although it may have changed since the Bray routes were altered.

I don't think a taxi would be E20 at 6am mate, be no one on the road. I'd imagine E15 tops

A good tip is to hail a cab and say 'I need to get to ucd for E12, can you do that?'

    at dead hours most will

The Transport For Ireland app says the 7D passes UCD slip road at 05:44 and gets to O'Connell Street at 6am.

    Aircoach it.
Pickup point at the ucd slip road (opp Montrose hotel) and goes onto O'connell street (at the Garda st near the top end).
Should be every 20mins and will be €9 I think

    kDs option sounds good though!

Aircoach can only take people to/from the airport as part of their license.

Aircoach cant and wont drop people in town on their way to the airport. It violates their licence and isn't worth the risk for them

    This is wrong.

It is not (and I repeat) not a 7D. This is an error by DB.

It is a 7, that starts at Dalkey and operates via Barnhill Road, Avondale Road and Church Road and then route 45a to Shankill Church.

It then operates via the Bray Road to Cherrywood Flyover, and then via route 7 to St Vincent's Hospital.

From there it follows Nutley Lane, N11, Anglesea Road and operates once again via route 7 to the city centre.

The nearest stop to UCD will be the first inbound stop on the city side of Nutley Lane on the N11. I would suggest being at the stop for about 05:50.

Thanks Lxflyer. Really, you'd think this would be in the 7 timetable considering it shares most of its routing with the Rock Road. It just highlights the Transport For Ireland app is not always correct.

It really highlights that DB can't get these sorts of basic things right to be honest KD345.

    I despair sometimes.

    That looks not so basic...it is an 8, a 7D, a 7, a 45A, back to a 7..

What does it say on the front of the bus...

It's one of the early morning services designed to get drivers into the garage.

It is effectively a 7 from Cherrywood, but starting in Dalkey and serving Ballybrack and Shankill beforehand, and diverting via Donnybrook Garage.

There are quite a few of these and some DB get almost right (see route 39), others such as this, the first southbound 14 which diverts via Summerhill Garage and Gardiner Street (not serving Connolly Station stop) the first inbound 79 which starts at Neilstown, and later diverts via SCR and Conyngham Rd they get totally wrong.

I was waiting at the bus stop this morning at 5.35ish and the 7D was not on the display. Got a taxi in the end. Was only a fiver. Very pleased.

Hardly surprising given that the information is wrong on the NTA website.

The bus is not going to appear on any realtime information as the entire routing is wrong, and as I posted above it is not a 7D!!!!

Given the route it takes it was never going to be there before 5.50 and probably not until 6am.

I only saw your post when I checked boards now.
I probably could of gotten a 46a as I saw one speed by O Connell street when I was in McDonalds waiting for my connecting bus. I was not sure about traffic so I did not want to risk waiting for the 46a that said 30 mins on the screen when I was at the UCD stop. O well. I know for the future. Could of had another 30 mins in bed.

Ok looks like this was all sorted. Was about to suggest walking to Milltown, Luas to Stephens Green and walk to O'Connell street.

That 46a might be one that NTA site has on a short run from O'Con St at 0610 to Phoenix Park. Not 100% sure but this might be the 0515 from Phoenix Park into UCD and terminating. Perhaps it runs snis back to city centre from there, or maybe at that time of the morning the driver leaves the display as was?
