hello there, was thinking of replacing some double rads with singles because there a bit oversized for the rooms, they would be the same length but just wondering about how i could get them hooked up to the copper pipes without digging up the floor, as obviously they are set further from the wall for doubles. is it possible to buy some kind of extended brackets to move them out from the wall?would really appreciate any suggestions as cant find any answers anywhere else

Just use timber slats to secure the new brackets. If you paint them the same colour as the wall it will help neaten the overall effect.

You won't need to change the pipework. Radiator brackets have a long & a short side so the radiator can be hung to suit both single & double. This is standard.

You say the rads are a bit oversized.
Single rads will have a heat output rating of just over half that of a double rad the same size, I doubt if the rads you have are that oversized that you would get away with halving the output.

Why do you say they are oversized? are the rooms getting too hot? if so you could probably balance the system to solve this or better still fit thermostatic rad valves to shut the rads down as the room heats up.

thanks for the info everyone, wasnt aware of the two options on brackets, i measured the rooms and used a btu calculator and found i only needed half the btu to heat the rooms, my main reason for changing them would be to cut down on the overall btu so the stove would heat all rads better, does this work?would give me 9 singles instead of 5 singles and four doubles
